Last night the first loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) nests laid on Sanibel & Captiva hatched and the hatchlings made their way to the Gulf of Mexico!

  1. Great news. Is there a way to follow a particular nest? There are a few that I would like to follow as they were deposited where I got married in November. I also monitored sea turtle nests in Pinellas county for a couple of years as well as being involved in turtle rehab for 14 years.

    Thanks

  2. We begin posting information about nests as they hatch to our website- www.sccf.org. We try to do this twice a month, but during the busiest part of the season, that doesn't always happen! If you have a question about a specific nest and there's no information on our website yet, you can e-mail the sea turtle program at seaturtle@sccf.org.

  4. Yes, one of the nests that hatched was nest #1 on Captiva. We're still waiting on the Kemp's ridley nest!

  5. Thanks for the info, wasn't sure if it was posted on the blog or the website as there is minimal info on the website at this time. I remember when I monitored nests I had to update everything daily. Lucky team there.
